TO LOVE YOU MORE

An Open Floor Movement Lab w/ Kelsey Maloney

An exploration of honesty, polarity and relationship through dance, play, spoken and written story, ritual, and the art of paying attention.

Part One: Welcoming in the Monstrous

Sometimes we need a map. And sometimes we need to get fucking lost.
—Kate Shela, The 360 Emergence co-founder & facilitator

In TO LOVE YOU MORE, we’ll do both. We’ll choreograph a holding container with waypoints to a fertile ground of receptivity, curiosity, and attunement. This requires honesty, breath, dedication, a resistance to being pressured and yet the willingness to be surprised, to be changed. We’ll practice allowing the container to break away to see what’s there to follow in the cracks.

To remove veils of deception (those ways of keeping ourselves from our potency, power, and potential), we’ll invite in the monstrous. What Bayo Akomolafe calls “that which doesn’t fit in. The unfamiliar. The unrecognizable. The opening from worlds yet to be born. The messenger.”
That place, those places, both inside and outside of ourselves, where the unexpected lurks.

With reverence/irreverence, we’ll tend the territory between old and new stories, building our capacity to be with what is. To be with the charge of emotion, vulnerability, and what’s to come.

TO LOVE YOU MORE wasn’t the original name of this lab.  But when I dreamed into the purpose, the WHY, of this particular body of work, TO LOVE YOU MORE was at the root of the inquiry.
To love yourself more. To love another more. To love this world more. To love the wild mystery more.
To love both that which holds you and all that is crumbling around you, more. Inspiration also comes from the book LEARNING TO LOVE YOU MORE by Harrell Fletcher & Miranda July.

Please note:
-There will be art, connection, and/or further learning invitations between labs.
-You will need a new/blank notebook for the group. One that you can write, draw, and paint in (for example, one with blank drawing or watercolor pages). It doesn’t have to be big. Small or medium sized is great... Any size you can carry around with you on a day to day basis is best!

-Some experience with conscious dance/embodiment practice* is recommended as a prerequisite to joining this movement lab.
*Open Floor, 5Rhythms, The 360 Emergence, Azul, Soul Motion, embodied grief work, breath work, etc.
